...is so much more to do in life that killing should only be done if, you got it, it's absolutely necessary. That's where I stand and it works well in all cases I can think of. Is it ok to kill an organism that threatens your health and the only way to stop that threat is to kill it? Would it kill you if the positions were reversed? If so, then in this case I say it is ok to kill it first. Is an alien species threatening the lives of local species? Is the only way to remove that threat to kill the alien intruder? If so, then I would say it is ok to kill it. Do a people have limited choices with respect to protein? Is a local abundant species available to help with that need? Then I say yes, they have the right to kill what they need to survive. Killing for sport is not only a sin in most religions ("Thou Shalt Not Kill" did not only apply to other humans...) it is wasteful of life itself which we are just beginning to understand.
